December is the month of many contradictions. This time may feel a little dark because of the short days, but this season is full of light at the same time. Christmas is the time to come close to each other, after a year of mostly being cut off from each other. In a time where there is a lot of division between people and groups in society, we can look back on the past year, but we also continue to look ahead to a new year, and savor the hope of Christmas. To help you celebrate Christmas, I’ve listed some activities for you to enjoy!

  • Bring Christmas into your home

Bring in the Christmas lights and decorate your Christmas tree. The decorating does not have to stop there. Download a wallpaper to set on your computer and phone. Blast some music or put on a cute Christmas fireplace video on Youtube. Bring in the Christmas!

  • Baking Christmas cookies

Another thing to enjoy during the holidays is baking cookies. This is especially a nice activity to enjoy with a friend or a family member. You can find lots of recipes online for regular cookies, or chocolate based cookies. Just search for Christmas cookies and you will be good to go.

  • Go on a Christmas walk

While a lot of businesses are closed down during the pandemic, there are a lot of places you can order to go. So buy yourself some hot choco or ‘glühwein’ and walk around your neighborhood with your loved ones. You can also take a walk trough the woods and admire the beautiful winter scenes.

  • Celebrate Christmas online

You can play games with friends or go to church online. The last suggestion rings true especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning. There are a lot of church services that you can visit via an online livestream.

  • Watching Christmas movies

There is nothing better than relaxing and putting on an awesome movie. Some classics include:

  • The Grinch
  • The Harry Potter series
  • Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe
  • Willy Wonka + the Chocolate Factory
  • Frozen 1+2
  • Home Alone 1+2
  • Elf
  • The Holiday
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Nightmare Before Christmas

Another tip for you to enjoy movies on Netflix or another streaming service: look up the category ‘romantic movies’ or ‘holidays’. You will find lots of Christmas movies you probably have never watched!

  • Christmas card and gift sending

Last but not least, you can take time for your friends and family and deliver a cute card or Christmas gift to their door. You can ask your friends and family what they would love to receive, or you can just think about what they would enjoy and buy it for them as a thoughtful present. Its the season to be generous, so I am sure they would love you for it.

How will you be enjoying the holidays?
