When I was young I loved to make things for my own room or for gifts. Regularly I could be found in the garage of my childhood home with scissors or a saw in hand. It’s great to make things yourself, not only just for fun, but also because you can save money! Don’t worry: you don’t need a saw for these DIYs, they are very easy to do!

GOLDEN SUN
Do you want a sunny room and do you want to make something yourself? Then this is the DIY for you!

Necessities:
– Lots of straws (rather paper than plastic)
Glue (think super glue)
Cardboard
Gold spray (or eg Silver; for sale at the hardware store
for 10 euros, or other shops such as the action)
Scissors
Newspapers

How to do it:

First you start by making a circle out of a piece of cardboard. I used a pizza box for this. On this circle you are going to stick straws that will form the star (see pictures), so it is important that the circle is wide enough so that there is room for the glue. Start by drawing a small circle in the center of the cardstock, making a larger circle around it (about 4-5 cm away). Next, cut the circle out of the cardboard until you have a large ring. Also cut the straws to different lengths, fill the ring with these straws so that you can no longer see the cardboard (see pictures). The ring is the base and you are going to attach the straws with the superglue until you get several layers of straws (make sure that the straws are all the same distance in the middle (so that you have a perfectly open circle in the middle). dry completely (a few hours) and spray the sun with the gold paint (outside and use lots of newspapers)!

Your sun is ready!

MARBLE STICKER
Do you have surfaces that could use a refresher? You may enjoy the next DIY!

Necessities:
Self-adhesive marble foil (available at eg Bol.com or other places on the internet)
Any surface, such as a table, a wall, a refrigerator or a counter (endless possibilities)
Ruler and pencil
Scissors

How to do it:

First, get a roll of marble sticker. You can order these on the internet. You can search for “decorating foil/sticker”. I ordered mine from bol.com for €5.99. Next, you can choose a suitable surface that you would like to decorate! I myself chose the top of my fridge and a small top of a desk to decorate. This made a lot of difference in my room! But you can choose a wall as well (like in the picture above). What you do with the foil is mark the correct size with a ruler and pencil. Then you will cut it out. Finally, remove the sticker on one side and start applying the sticker. Keep ironing the sticker with your hand or the ruler while you slowly remove the back of the sticker (I found this a challenge!). And voilà! Your furniture has a new life!

DOORKNOB DIY
Do you pay attention to details and in the mood for an easy DIY? Then read on!

Necessities:
– A doorknob (or knob of a cupboard)
Spray paint (eg goldspray: 1.60 at Action or online)
Newspapers

How to do it:

There are buttons on all cabinets and doors. Some buttons are more suitable for this DIY than others, it’s up to you! What you do is remove the button from the surface first (very important). Next, preferably go outside and put the button on lots of newspapers (so that the paint does not get on anything). Shake your spraypaint and paint the button on all sides (don’t forget to cover up the details). Let it dry for 24 hours (also outside) and you can turn it back on your door or drawer and there you have it!
